Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are critical for the economic and social development of Ukraine. They play a major role in creating jobs and generating income for low income people; they foster economic growth, social stability, and contribute to the development of a dynamic private sector. As such, access to financial services is vital in developing a vibrant SME sector in Ukraine, however, access to financial services for SMEs remains severely constrained. Topics to be addressed include:

– SME Lending in Ukraine
– SME Credit Assessment
– SME and Digital
– Ukraine and Financial Literacy

Poland is Europe’s leader in contactless card payments. Poland’s banks and bankers have landed many prestigious awards for their innovation strategies in recent years. The embrace of innovation by the Polish banks is set to continue with the country’s banking sector remaining highly competitive having plenty of digital disruptors like Getin Bank vying to take market share. What lessons can we learn from the Polish success stories that can be applied to the Ukrainian market.

Since the start of CIS bankers back in 2011 we have not seen small banks in Ukraine under as much pressure as they are today. The image above shows that more than 80 banks have been closed under the new rulers of the National Bank of Ukraine and it seems we have not seen the end of it just yet. So what does the future hold in store for small banks? Mergers, acquisitions? Developing into niche segments? This and more we will discuss in the closing session of our Forum.
